Speaking on the OTB Football Podcast, Liverpool legend John Aldridge has claimed that Italy’s performance against Turkey at Euro 2020 reminded him of Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp.
The Italians put on a great showing in the tournament’s curtain-raiser, putting three past Turkey all while utterly dominating proceedings.
Aldridge was very impressed, claiming that the Azzuri’s showing was reminiscent of Klopp’s Liverpool.
What’s been said?
Aldridge was talking up Italy’s chances of winning the Euros when he compared them to Liverpool.
“I do think Italy have got a really good chance of doing some damage in this tournament, absolutely. The way they’re planning, they’re a bit like Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp in many ways, they’re pressing so well up the pitch. They’re not like Italian teams of old where they want to catch you out on the break, there’s a proper gameplan now,” Aldridge said.

Big chance
If Italy continue to play in this way, they will certainly have a big chance of winning the Euros.
We’ve seen in recent years that the high-tempo, pressing game is the way forward in football with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City seeing a lot of success while implementing that style.
Roberto Mancini is an excellent manager, and while the Italians don’t have the best team on paper, their gameplan looks to be solid.
The four-time World Cup winners could be on track to taste European glory this summer, all while playing a style of football akin to Klopp’s Liverpool.
