Leeds United face Liverpool in the quarter-final of the EFL Cup.

Leeds United were paired with Liverpool in the quarter-finals of the League Cup on Wednesday night.

The Whites beat Norwich City on penalties to reach the last eight of the competition under Garry Monk, who won it as a player back in 2013 with Swansea City.

Liverpool, meanwhile, edged out Tottenham Hotspur with a 2-1 victory to seal their progression into next round, with Daniel Sturridge scoring twice.

The quarter-final takes place at Anfield next month and it will be the first time for a while since Leeds faced a huge Premier League side outfit.

And John Aldridge is delighted with the draw on Twitter, noting that he has lots of respect for the Yorkshire side.

In theory, it should not be much trouble for Liverpool, but Monk’s side are getting better all the time and even Leeds fans would not be astonished to see an away win, such is the level of the optimism among the supporters at the moment.

Of course, United will hope that brushing shoulders with England’s elite is a regular thing next season as they battle to reclaim their spot in the Premier League, following 12 years in the lower divisions.

Leeds are 10th in the Championship, after 14 matches played, but only three points separate them from the playoffs ahead of Burton Albion’s visit to Elland Road on Saturday.
