John Aldridge has claimed that Diogo Jota is now Liverpool’s biggest goal threat, even more than Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.

Jota returned from a three-month injury absence earlier in March and immediately showed the Reds what they were missing.

He scored the only goal of the game prior to the international break as Liverpool won away to his former club Wolves.

And Jota has clearly taken his good run of form into the international setting, scoring three goals in two games for Portugal during the break.

Liverpool are five points behind fourth-placed Chelsea in the race for a top-four finish and although nobody can doubt Salah or Mane’s class, their erratic form hasn’t helped Jurgen Klopp’s side for much of 2021 – well, in the Premier League at least.

And club legend Aldridge has told The Echo that it’s imperative for Jota to start most games between now and the end of the season.

He said: “He has to be on the team sheet for Jurgen Klopp as often as possible because right now, he is the biggest goal threat Liverpool have. More so than Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane at the moment, I have to say.

“Jota looks the most likely, he has the hunger and desire to get the goals and the confidence he had before the injury, it is still there.”

Klopp’s side resume their push for Champions League qualification on Sunday with a tricky visit to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium and Aldridge is right in saying that Jota, as of right now, is a more dangerous player than any of his teammates.”
