Johan Mjallby has spoken highly of Celtic midfielder Scott Brown to The Scottish Sun.
The 47-year-old former Celtic central defender worked with Brown when he was part of Neil Lennon’s backroom staff at the Hoops as an assistant manager.
The former Sweden international has admitted his initial surprise when he first started working with the 33-year-old midfielder, who has been on the books of the Bhoys since the summer of 2007 when he joined from Hibernian for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £4.4 million.
Mjallby told The Scottish Sun about Brown: “Scott’s very important to Celtic. I’ve always said he’s a cracking player.
“When I first came back as assistant working with Neil, Garry and Alan Thompson, Scott was in a way seen only as a workhorse.
“But, he’s got great technique, he’s skilful and good on the ball. He’s a good passer. It surprised me how good he is when I started working with him.
“He will always have that running power and he’s so fit. For me, he’s still an unbelievably important player for Celtic.”
Important figure
Brown is a very combative midfielder and is one of the best in his position in the Scottish Premiership.
The former Scotland international is not bad with the ball and at driving his team forward either, and there is no surprise that even at the age of 33, Brown remains a key figure in the Celtic team.
For Brendan Rodgers’s side to be successful this season, the former Hiberian star has to be on top form.
