French striker Dembele continues to be linked with a move away from Celtic.
Celtic legend Johan Mjallby has told BetStars that he would “hate” to see Moussa Dembele leave Parkhead this summer but admits that every player has his price.
The 21-year-old striker starred in his first season at Celtic after moving north of the border from newly-promoted Premier League side Fulham in the summer of 2016. He scored 32 goals in 49 games.
However, this time around, the France Under-21 international managed to find the back of the net just 16 times in 39 league and cup appearances but interest is likely to remain in the young forward.
Mjallby was asked whether he reckons Celtic should keep Dembele this summer and stated that the striker should only be sold if the right offer comes in. However, he stated that he is desperate to see his former side keep him.
“It’s all about the price. If a really great offer comes in for him then I’m sure Celtic will contemplate the offer. He’s been a great success at the club and hopefully they can enjoy him for a little longer,” Mjallby said.
“He’s still very young, he’s got a lot of quality but he can improve even more and become an even better player. I’m sure he loves working with Brendan Rodgers as well.
“It all comes down to if a really great offer comes in because if you lose a player like Dembele you have to try and bring in someone with the same quality or even better quality if you can. It’s a catch 22. I would hate to see him leave.”
Dembele has two years remaining on his £25k-a-week contract (Daily Star) at Celtic and has drawn interest from the Premier League and back in his home country since moving to Parkhead.
Dembele may find that his amount of first-team game time reduces ahead of the 2018-19 campaign, following the club-record signing of Odsonne Edouard from French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
