Pelupessy’s previous displays drew criticism from some Sheffield Wednesday supporters.
Joey Pelupessy was not the only Sheffield Wednesday player not up to scratch as the Owls suffered a 2-0 defeat against Brentford on Sunday, but it was he who copped much of the flak.
Despite that, the Dutchman survived Jos Luhukay’s mini-cull ahead of Wednesday night’s visit of Millwall and turned in a much-improved display as the Owls ran out 2-1 winners.
A change of system – from 5-2-2-1 to 4-2-3-1 – appeared to help, allowing Pelupessy and one or two others to look more assured in their roles.
He was disciplined, rarely straying too far from Barry Bannan, his midfield partner; committed, sticking in his boot to win back possession on multiple occasions; and loads more focused, with not a suicidal back-pass, something which had become a Pelupessy trademark, in sight.
But best of all, he left a number of Sheffield Wednesday fans eating their words, some openly, on Twitter afterwards.
