Sam Allardyce’s Everton side are set to take on Liverpool in what looks to be a fierce contest next weekend.

Joey Barton has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 4th December, that Everton should go to a back five against Liverpool next week.

Everton are set to take on Liverpool at Anfield, and Barton feels that Sam Allardyce should learn from Chelsea’s success.

Chelsea picked up a 1-1 draw against the Reds recently, with Antonio Conte putting five at the back for the contest and smother Mohamed Salah.

And Barton feels that Everton will need to be wary of the impact that Salah could have on the match.

Barton said: “They’ve got to go to Anfield at the weekend. I’d seen Chelsea deal with them and they went to a back five. They gave Salah the respect he’s due, as they doubled up on him and smothered him.

“Sam will do an awful lot to go a long way with the Evertonians, if he can go there and get a result.”

Allardyce won his first match in charge at Everton at the weekend, with the Toffees beating Huddersfield Town.

Sam Allardyce looks on from the stand during the Premier League match between Everton and West Ham United at Goodison Park on November 29, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Everton won 2-0 at Goodison Park on Saturday, to record back-to-back league victories for the first time this season.

Everton are now into the top half of the Premier League table, with positivity flooding back.

Liverpool will pose a stern test for Everton though, as the Reds are in flying form.

Liverpool demolished Brighton & Hove Albion at the weekend, and are looking strong in the race for a top four spot.
