David Moyes, Manager of Sunderland gives his team instructions during the Premier League match between Arsenal and Sunderland at Emirates Stadium on May 16, 2017 in London, England.

“They could be looking for another manager again in January,” Barton told talkSPORT.

“If they don’t have a positive upturn in performances and results then the January window opens and you go ‘OK, is David going to be our long-term manager? No. Are we going to allow him money to spend? Well, no. Then are we better replacing him?’

“If somebody else more attractive comes to the market, who is to say West Ham won’t replace David again. It’s clear he wasn’t the fans’ number one choice.”

Barton was actually linked with a move to West Ham back in the summer of 2012. According to The Daily Mail, the Englishman underwent a medical at the Hammers and was due to start training, but the club’s chiefs pulled out of the deal due to fans not wanting him.
