Pundit Joey Barton has taken to Twitter to suggest that he has heard Everton will appoint Sam Allardyce as their new manager on a deal until the end of the season.
The Toffees enjoyed a miraculous afternoon, as whilst they fell 2-0 down to Watford at Goodison Park after goals from Richarlison and Christian Kabasele, they produced a stunning comeback.
Everton pulled a goal back through Oumar Niasse, before Dominic Calvert-Lewin equalised, and Leighton Baines scored from the penalty spot, with Tom Cleverley then missing a penalty that would have given Watford a share of the spoils.
Everton will hope to use this result to give their season a much needed boost, but the attention will quickly turn to finding a new manager over the course of the international break.
The Toffees sacked Ronald Koeman last month, and whilst David Unsworth will be delighted to have got his first win as caretaker manager, Everton may look for an external appointment.
The favourite with Sky Bet this evening is Sam Allardyce, with the former Crystal Palace boss potentially looking to get back into management having left Selhurst Park at the end of last season.
Allardyce is often brought in as a firefighter, getting teams out of trouble when they find themselves around the relegation zone, and that’s exactly where Everton are right now – though fans may be looking for a more exciting appointment given Allardyce’s style of play.
