Joey Barton has an interesting theory why prime target could reject Everton job

Everton are hot on the heels on Burnley boss Sean Dyche.

Joey Barton labelled the Toffees as ‘a bit of a mess’, when speaking on talkSPORT’s Matchday Live on Saturday November 4th, highlighting a major reason why Clarets boss Sean Dyche might be put off taking the vacant manager’s job at Goodison Park.

Everton have endured a woeful start to their 2017/18 campaign, and currently sit precariously in 19th position in the Premier League table.

They have also already been eliminated from the Europa League, after playing just four games in their group.

The Merseyside outfit are currently in total disarray, with no permanent manager in charge, and with a home game against high-flying Watford tomorrow, morale levels are currently at an all-time low.

One of the Toffees main targets to replace the recently departed Ronald Koeman is Burnley manager Sean Dyche, according to Sky Sports, but Joey Barton doesn’t believe the 46-year-old will be overly keen on taking over at Goodison Park.

The former Burnley ace told talkSPORTS’s Matchday Live:

“Everton are a club in a bit of a mess at this moment in time. There is going to be a BBC Panorama programme on Sunday and Monday night which is about something which has gone on in the background of the club, in terms of who owns it. I think if Everton can get Sean Dyche through the door they’ve done incredibly well. He’s a modern day version of what David Moyes did to them. He would be a fantastic appointment for Everton. The difficulty lies, knowing the man as I do, in the off the pitch stuff could spook him and maybe make him sit tight and wait for a different opportunity.”

Only time will tell if Barton is right in his thinking regarding Dyche and the Everton manager’s job, but with the Clarets currently flying high in sixth position in the Premier League table, the 46-year-old will be extremely hard to prise away from Turf Moor.
