Tuchel is among the favourites to succeed Ronald Koeman at Everton.

Joey Barton of Burnley takes a look around the pitch prior to the Premier League match between Everton and Burnley at Goodison Park on April 15, 2017 in Liverpool, England.

Joey Barton claims Thomas Tuchel would be insane to take the Everton manager’s job.

Tuchel is among the favourites to succeed Ronald Koeman at Goodison Park, after the Dutchman’s sacking last week.

The German is also without a club after leaving Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, and has been strongly linked with the Bayern Munich post when it becomes available next summer.

Everton, though, slipped into the Premier League’s bottom three after Koeman’s final game in charge, and remain there following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat against Leicester City.

But responding to one Twitter user on the topic of Tuchel’s potential appointment, Barton, a boyhood Everton supporter, wrote on Sunday evening:

And the former Burnley player followed up those comments on Talksport on Monday morning, adding: “I’ve heard people saying Thomas Tuchel, but Tuchel would be insane to take the Everton job. It’s midway through the season in a league he doesn’t know.”

Barton appears to have infuriated many Evertonians with his comments about caretaker manager David Unsworth, whose appearance he made fun of and whom he described as a ‘glorified PE teacher’.
