Joey Barton has warned Everton against the potential appointment of David Unsworth.

Everton's interim manager David Unsworth looks on during the English League Cup fourth round football match between Chelsea and Everton at Stamford Bridge in London on October 25, 2017.

Joey Barton has warned Everton not to appoint David Unsworth as permanent manager.

Unsworth has taken charge for the last two games after Ronald Koeman’s sacking, a 2-1 defeat against Chelsea and a 2-0 loss to Leicester.

Former defender Unsworth has had success coaching Everton’s under-23 team, but Barton predicts certain misery if he is appointed full time as first team coach.

Commenting on Twitter, Barton warns relegation beckons.

Asked to justify his comments, Barton accused Unsworth of being ‘egotistical’ with his team selections and substitutions.

The two straight losses has taken the air out of the support Unsworth was getting for him to take over permanently.

The Toffees are in a dire run of form and sit in the relegation zone after 10 games, with just two wins, and are bottom of their Europa League group.
