Liverpool have progressed to the group stage of the Champion League this season.

Former Newcastle United and Manchester City midfielder Joey Barton has taken to social networking site Twitter to give his reaction to Liverpool’s progress to the group stage of the Champions League his season.

Liverpool have booked a place in the group stage of Europe’s premier club competition courtesy of a 6-3 aggregate victory over German club Hoffenheim in the playoff round.

The Reds won the second leg of the tie 4-2 at Anfield on Wednesday evening, thanks to goals from Emre Can (two), Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.

Former Newcastle and Queens Park Rangers midfielder Barton was following the match, and he has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to Liverpool’s performance against Hoffenheim.

Ex-Liverpool star John Arne Riise was also following the game, and he has strongly criticised 28-year-old Reds defender Dejan Lovren and praised 23-year-old midfielder Can, who can also operate as a defender, on Twitter.

Liverpool deserved to win against Hoffenheim over two legs, but Jurgen Klopp’s side need to be better defensively.

If the Reds are drawn in a tough game and have to face some of the best teams in the Champions League, then they could be in trouble.
