Everton were beaten 3-0 by Lyon in Europa League action last night.
Joey Barton has mocked Phil Neville, following Everton’s 3-0 defeat against Lyon last night.
Neville has been a major advocate of David Unsworth being given the Everton job, while Barton has been the caretaker boss’s biggest critic.
And Barton felt that Everton’s defeat last night was further evidence of why they shouldn’t appoint Unsworth.
Everton actually put in an encouraging performance against Lyon, but as soon as Memphis Depay scored the first they collapsed.
Everton went on to concede two further goals against Lyon, as the French side ended up strolling to victory.
Everton are now out of the Europa League, and will be free to concentrate on Premier League matters.
Unsworth rested some key players last night, with one eye on Sunday’s crucial match against Watford.
If Everton win that contest they could move out of the relegation zone, but another defeat would be disastrous and surely end any hope Unsworth had of getting the job on a permanent basis.
