Tottenham Hotspur and Everton are both expected to be battling it out for a place in the Premier League’s top four this season.
Everton have made no secret of their desire to break into the top four, and there has been some suggestions that Tottenham could be vulnerable to losing their place.
Spurs’ move to Wembley has caused some concerns, due to the North London side’s struggles at the national stadium in recent times.
Spurs lost to Chelsea in their first match in their temporary home for the season.
But Barton does not believe that Tottenham should be unduly concerned about losing their place in the top four, as Everton are still short of the quality required to catch them.
“I don’t think so [Wembley will cost Spurs top four]. I think it’ll take them a little bit of time to settle in, but I think their quality will come through,” Barton said. “More teams will freeze there, as Spurs get used to the stadium.
“Everton need a number nine to get into the top four, and I’m not sure they’ll get a top quality one.”
Everton boss Ronald Koeman is known to be targeting a new striker, as he looks to improve his attacking options.
The Toffees sold Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United earlier this summer, and are now looking to replace his goals.
Everton won their first match of the season 1-0 against Stoke City, but face a tough test later this evening when they take on Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
