Barton will not feature in the match, as his future at Rangers remains firmly in doubt following a training ground argument last month.
Barton has not been training with Rangers in recent weeks, but he has offered his teammates a good luck message ahead of the Old-Firm derby.
Rangers go into the match against Celtic as heavy outsiders, after they were heavily beaten when the two sides met earlier in the season.
Rangers lost 5-1 at Celtic Park last month, in what was an embarrassing match for Mark Warburton’s men.
The Light Blues will be desperate to avoid a similar result this time around, but their task of beating Celtic looks a tough one.
The Bhoys are still unbeaten in domestic action this term, but they do head into the derby match on the back of a defeat, after losing to Borussia Monchengladbach in the Champions League in midweek.
