Joey Barton has criticised Crystal Palace’s move for Roy Hodgson.

Joey Barton has told talkSPORT that he doesn’t think Roy Hodgson is the right man for the Crystal Palace job following Frank de Boer’s exit.

Palace have endured a dismal start to the Premier League season, losing their four games at the hands of Huddersfield Town, Liverpool, Swansea City and Burnley, without even scoring a single goal.

The Eagles only appointed Frank de Boer as their new manager over the summer, replacing Sam Allardyce, but the Dutchman has been sacked after just four games as Steve Parish makes yet another managerial change.

Palace barely gave De Boer a chance, but now the attention immediately turns to finding a replacement ahead of next weekend’s game against Southampton – and a clear favourite has already emerged.

The Daily Mail report that former England boss Roy Hodgson is ironing out the details of a two-year deal with the Eagles, sealing a return to Premier League management.

Hodgson, 70, was born in nearby Croydon and started his career in the Crystal Palace youth team, with a return to South London looking imminent having left his role as England boss in the summer of 2016.

Whilst Hodgson impressed in Premier League spells with Fulham and West Brom, his stint with Liverpool still lingers for many, and Joey Barton has now offered his verdict.

Joey Barton has told talkSPORT that he feels Hodgson isn’t the right man for the job given that he has no charisma, and his career should have been over after England’s Euro 2016 failure, leading the ex-Burnley man to believe that Hodgson could meet a similar ending to De Boer.

“He’s just got no charisma, no personality at all!” said Barton. “Did you see him at the back end of that England campaign? He just looked like he needed to be taken out into the back garden and have someone pull the trigger on him.”

“A lot of people say he’s a great fella, but I just don’t think [he’s the right fit for the Palace job]. I didn’t see the Frank de Boer appointment, I thought it was a bit left field and I think if you’re them you want somebody who lifts the place up,” he added.
