Burnley and QPR are top two clubs in the mix according to SkyBet.
Joey Barton’s release from Rangers is inevitable report SkySports, with discussions ongoing about his contract being terminated, and agreed in principle.
The controversial midfielder’s stint in Scotland will be remembered as a much hyped disaster, with his last game being the 5-1 loss to Rangers’ rivals Celtic.
Rangers’ Joey Barton in action with Burnley’s Dean Marney
Despite his love him or hate him character, Barton is likely to be in demand as a free agent, having played a key role in Burnley’s promotion to the Premier League last season.
Bookies SkyBet are already offering odds on his next club, and the most likely option is quoted as being a return to Turf Moor, to rejoin the club he walked away from on a free transfer in the summer.
Burnley are priced at 1/3 on to re-sign the midfielder, although prices are likely to change through the course of the day. These odds dropped last night from 6/4.
Rangers’ Joey Barton looks dejected
Another of Barton’s former clubs QPR are also considered to be in the mix, although the fact they are without a manager dampens suggestions they may be plotting a move. QPR are priced at 6/1 to sign the midfielder.
Leeds United were listed as third favourites at 8/1, but their price increased last night up to 16/1. Third favourites are instead Derby County, who are priced at 10/1, and managed by Steve McClaren, who gave Barton his one and only international cap.
Aston Villa are outsiders at 12/1 while Neil Warnock’s Cardiff City are further back at 14/1.
