Aston Villa picked up their first victory of the season by beating Norwich City 4-2 at the weekend.

Joey Barton has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast Show, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 21st August, that Aston Villa should be concerned by their defensive struggles.

Villa won for the first time this season against Norwich City at the weekend, but they shipped two goals in doing so.

And Barton believes that the claret and blues should have some worries about their defensive issues.

“There were people asking ‘is he going to get sacked’ but I was like ‘come on, we’re only two games into the season’. The concern for Bruce will be that they’ve conceded another two goals, especially with John Terry,” Barton said.

“John’s been brought in to shore them up and give them that experience.”

Villa managed to beat Norwich 4-2 in their most recent match, in their most impressive performance of the season so far.

Conor Hourihane netted a hat-trick and Andre Green also got on the scoresheet to provide the claret and blues with their first three points of the season.

The victory reduces some of the pressure which had been placed on Bruce, after his side’s poor showing in the early part of the campaign.

Villa have still conceded eight goals in their first four matches, and will need to tighten up at the back, if they are to live up to their billing as promotion favourites.

Bruce’s men are next in action in midweek, when they take on Wigan Athletic in the League Cup.
