Well, Newcastle United have lost yet another Premier League game.

Eddie Howe’s outfit went down 4-0 at home to champions Manchester City at St James’s Park this afternoon.

Once again, Newcastle were completely outclassed and staying in the Premier League is looking like an increasingly-difficult task.

The January transfer window can’t come soon enough for a Magpies side that sit 19th in the standings, three points adrift of safety – but the team they’re chasing, Watford, have a worrying two games in hand.

Howe desperately needs reinforcements next month but with the United owners boasting a fortune of £320 billion, investment is guaranteeed.

The Newcastle supporters were in fine voice again in spite of the defeat and Joey Barton has sung their praises on Twitter, while claiming that their project could take some years to bear fruit – just like it did at the Etihad Stadium.

Unlucky

There’s no doubt that Newcastle should’ve had a penalty when Ederson fouled Ryan Fraser in the first half on Tyneside.

The Magpies were unfortunate to have that decision go against them – despite a VAR check – and Howe will speak about it in his post-match interview.

But really, it probably wouldn’t have changed the complexion of the game.

Simply put, Newcastle’s defence is farcical and the idea of them not conceding after scoring their hypothetical penalty, and earning at least a draw, is the stuff of fantasy.
