Chris Wood left Leeds United to join Burnley during the summer transfer window.
Burnley paid big money to take Wood from Leeds, but the target-man has already begun repaying his transfer fee.
Wood has made the step up to Premier League level with ease, and has been highly impressive in his first few appearances for Sean Dyche’s side.
And Barton believes Burnley deserve credit for making a move for Wood, after seeing him score so many times for Leeds.
“There was a lot of money involved and Chris had big boots to fill, after Andre Gray left. But he’s taken to it like a duck to water. He got off the mark early, and that was important,” Barton said.
“Credit to them. It would have been easy to pass the boat and gamble on a foreign player from a strange league and with a strange passport.
“He dipped back into the Championship, and he knew he could score goals there.
“I thought it was a bold move at the time, because you thought they needed pace to replace Andre, but it’s worked out really well for them.”
Wood already has two Premier League goals to his name in his first five appearances for Burnley.
The New Zealand international’s absence has been felt by Leeds more recently too, with the Whites struggling on the road.
Leeds looked to replace Wood with Pierre-Michel Lasogga, and although the German has started brightly, he will do well to match Wood’s total of 30 goals from last season.
