Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are bitter North London rivals.

Joey Barton claimed on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show on talkSPORT on Monday morning (7:25am, January 29, 2018) that Tottenham Hotspur are a bigger club than Arsenal at the moment.

The former Rangers and Newcastle United midfielder, though, then backtracked over his claim, and stated that at this moment in time, Spurs are in a better position for the next decade or two.

Barton said on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT on Monday morning (7:25am, January 29, 2018): “If you are looking at clubs progressing, you have to say that Arsenal are now a smaller club than Spurs.

“They are in the Champions League, the team’s better, they have got a new manager, they have got a better team – up and coming – and the new stadium’s going to be better than the Emirates.”

When it was pointed out to him about Arsenal winning trophies and titles in the past, the former Manchester City midfielder said: “Fair enough.

“Arsenal are bigger at this moment in time. I am just saying for the next decade, the next two decades, Spurs look like they are in a much better spot than this Arsenal team.”

Arsenal are one of the biggest clubs in the world and have a global following, but in recent years, it is Tottenham who have made more progress on the pitch.

Spurs have a better team than Arsenal at the moment and finished in the top four of the Premier League last season – the Gunners did not.

However, it is hard to predict what will happen in the next 10 years. Arsenal could well make some blockbuster signings in the next two or three years, and Spurs could well lose some of their top players in the next few seasons.

What is clear, though, is that Spurs are a better team than Arsenal at the moment.
