Joey Barton has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 27th November, that he believes Alan Pardew’s appointment at West Bromwich Albion is very smart.

Pardew is expected to take over at the Hawthorns in the near future, with the Baggies making a swift replacement for Tony Pulis.

And Barton is expecting West Brom to make an improvement under Pardew’s leadership.

Alan Pardew, Manager of Crystal Palace looks on during the Premier League match between Crystal Palace and Chelsea at Selhurst Park on December 17, 2016 in London, England.

The former Burnley midfielder said: “I think Pardew will do a good job. He’s a better manager than he gets credit for. I think it’s a shrewd appointment.”

West Brom have been in abject form of late, with a run of four straight defeats ultimately proving costly for Pulis.

The Baggies did manage to hold on for a draw against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley though, which gives them some momentum.

Alan Pardew manager of Crystal Palace looks on priorto the Premier League match between Everton and Crystal Palace at Goodison Park on September 30, 2016 in Liverpool, England.

Pardew could be in charge for West Brom’s next match, which comes against Newcastle United tomorrow evening.

If Albion are able to beat Rafael Benitez’s side they will put some distance between themselves and the relegation zone, with the Midlands side currently in 17th place in the Premier League table.
