Joey Barton has told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, which was broadcast on TalkSPORT on 30th October, that he felt Everton midfielder Tom Davies had ‘a stinker’ against Leicester City.

Davies was selected to start by David Unsworth at the King Power Stadium, but the midfielder struggled to make much of an impact.

Davies arguably should have done more to stop Leicester’s second goal, as the Foxes ran out 2-0 winners.

And Barton claims that Unsworth should have considered taking Davies off at half-time, rather than Aaron Lennon or Kevin Mirallas.

“Let’s be honest about this, he was having a stinker,” Barton said. “Mainly because the distances were too great between the strikers and midfield. If he was going to take players off at half-time, Tom Davies was a prime candidate. He was having a difficult time.”

Everton went into the break at 2-0 down against Leicester, but they actually improved after Unsworth’s changes.

Unsworth changed to a more narrow formation at half-time, but it was not enough to get Everton back into the match.

Everton are currently in 18th place in the Premier League table, with fears that they are in a relegation battle beginning to grow.
