It’s clear now that Newcastle’s Joelinton isn’t an out-and-out number nine.
Speaking to the Telegraph, the Brazilian says this season he has been moved into the position he played for Hoffenheim before coming to England.
That is largely because of Callum Wilson’s arrival, but Joelinton has said that was very welcome.
“The last few games, I have been playing in a different position, a position I played many times for Hoffenheim,” said Joelinton.
“It felt good, having two attacking players around me, I hope that continues. I hope I score a lot more goals.
“Callum Wilson coming in is very welcome. He can play as the front striker and I like to drop into space behind.
“I want to score more goals, but I am looking forward to good, positive things ahead. I think it is bringing out the best in me.”

Steve Bruce had little choice but to persist with Joelinton up front last season and you could see by the end of the campaign it had impacted his confidence.
Now, Wilson takes on the burden of being the number nine – even if Joelinton still wears the shirt – and the Brazilian can operate from deeper.
It’s no surprise that Newcastle’s attacking threat has increased as a result, and Joelinton is right to hope that his second Magpies season will be better than his first.
Elsewhere in the interview, Joelinton makes it clear he holds Bruce in high esteem and that strong relationship with the Magpies manager can only help too.
