Joel Veltman has given his thoughts on Tottenham Hotspur’s performance to Ajax TV.

Spurs suffered a home defeat against the Dutch league leaders in the Champions League semi-final first leg.

Ajax defender Veltman said: “I think we could all see that we were strong in the first half and had the best chances.

“The second half was typically English, up and down. In the end we are happy that we have crossed the 1-0 mark.”

Veltman is refusing to believe Ajax have one foot in the Champions League final. He cheekily added: “With a toe maybe.”

Ajax now have home advantage and a 1-0 lead heading into the second leg.

Spurs need to come and attack them, which could play into Ajax’s hands.

The Dutch side have already beaten Juventus and Real Madrid, and went into both second legs without a lead.

This is new unchartered territory for Ajax, and Tottenham are really up against it.
