In a recent interview with Ziggo Sport’s Peptalk and later published online by Football.London, Ajax defender Joel Veltman put Tottenham Hotspur fans on high alert when he was asked about the club’s alleged interest in him.

“If there is a club from London then she (his wife) is the first to say ‘sign’,” the right-back is quoted as saying, and tonight he has the perfect chance to convince Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino that he is worthy of a summer switch.

Tottenham's Kyle Walker in action

As reported by the Telegraph earlier this month, Tottenham are tracking Veltman and his Ajax teammate Davy Klaassen, and this evening’s Europa League final against Manchester United will show Pochettino what the Dutch duo can do against English opposition.

While Klaassen’s goal-scoring nous from the centre of the park would come in handy at Tottenham, Veltman’s move is likely to be dependent on the future of current first-choice right-back Kyle Walker.

United have some of the trickiest wide players and paciest attackers in the league in the form of Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Juan Mata and Marcus Rashford, and if Veltman can keep that trio quiet, he may yet play his way into Tottenham’s side…or at least prompt a sizable bid this summer.

At 25, and with the ability to play at centre-back if required, Veltman could be the perfect summer addition for a Tottenham team looking to improve on this year’s hugely promising campaign.
