Joel Robles’ current contract at Everton expires at the end of next season.
Joel Robles has told IB Times that he wants to stay with Everton, even though his future is in some doubt.
Robles has become Everton’s first choice goalkeeper this season, after displacing Maarten Stekelenburg.
However, the Spaniard’s contract at Goodison Park is due to expire at the end of next term.
At the moment, Robles has not even begun to enter discussions at extending his stay on Merseyside – but the 26-year-old insists that if he is offered new terms, he will sign them.
“I feel great at the club,” he said. “I want to stay here as many years as possible. Everton is like a home for me after four seasons. The people of Liverpool are very friendly. I am very happy with my teammates and in the club.
“My contract will expire next season but I’m not worried. We have not spoken about anything yet but my first choice will be [to stay] at Everton. I have it very clear and I will not leave until the club tell me that they don’t want me here. If they tell me that I will pack the suitcases and leave but I have very clear that priority is to stay at Everton.”
Whether Robles will be handed new terms at Everton remains to be seen, as Ronald Koeman does have big plans for the club.
Koeman has made no secret of his desire to guide Everton into the top four and he is expected to sign a new stopper in the summer.
Everton have already been strongly linked with Manchester City star Joe Hart, ahead of the next transfer window (The Sun).
Everton are currently in seventh place in the Premier League table, after losing 3-2 to Tottenham Hotspur in their most recent outing.
