The defender is one of several new faces at Liverpool this summer.

New Liverpool signing Joel Matip has told the club’s official website that it was a simple decision to join the Reds.
Matip agreed the move to Anfield earlier this year as they secured a pre-contract agreement in February. The Reds moved quickly to secure his signature with his deal at Schalke coming to an end this summer.
He arrives at the club as reinforcement for a defence that struggled once again last season under manager Jurgen Klopp.

The German was clearly keen to add Matip to his back line, and the player says it was not a difficult decision for him to make the move to the Premier League either.
“There were many points: the coach, the club, the supporters… everything was good,” he told liverpoolfc.com.
“It was a good and simple decision for me. It’s a great pleasure and honour to be a part of this big club.”

It now remains to be seen whether Matip will be a regular in the side next season following his arrival this summer.
The defence has long been a problem for the Reds, although the likes of Dejan Lovren and Mamadou Sakho showed improvement under Klopp last season.
Whether they did enough to convince him that they should be the Reds first choice partnership is unknown, but Matip is likely to provide stern competition regardless.
