Liverpool have impressed so far this season, with new signing Joel Matip playing an integral role in their success.

During an exclusive interview with the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool new-boy Joel Matip admitted that he has never heard of Reds legend Alan Hansen, despite drawing comparisons with the former Scotland international.
The 25-year-old Cameroon international has been a revelation since his summer move to Anfield on a free transfer, and has arguably established himself as Jürgen Klopp’s first choice centre-back, after a succession of imposing performances.
Matip’s displays have been of such a high standard that comparisons have been drawn between him and one of Liverpool’s all-time greats – Alan Hansen.
Amazingly, though, the former Schalke man admitted that he doesn’t even know who Hansen is, when asked about comparisons with the Scot, during an exclusive interview with the Liverpool Echo:
“I’m sorry, I have to say I haven’t heard of him. But I know this club has won many trophies in the past and has had many great defenders.”

Matip has made 10 Premier League appearances for Liverpool so far this season, and has by far been the most impressive defensive performer for Klopp.
The one issue that the German will have to address is the lack of a consistent partner for the Cameroonian, and is probably the only area where the Reds need to improve upon in the January transfer window.
