Sunderland attacker Joel Asoro stood up to be counted in Chris Coleman’s side’s last match.

Chris Coleman may have told the Chronicle that he feels Sunderland’s Joel Asoro can get bullied in matches, but the youngster may just be the first name on the team sheet at the Stadium of Light right now.

Asoro may still be inexperienced, but he has been one of the bright spots in a highly disappointing campaign so far.

The 18-year-old’s performance against Bristol City was one of guts and quality, and it shows exactly why Coleman has so much faith in the young attacker.

Sunderland were 3-0 down against Bristol City, and many youngsters would have folded in such circumstances.

Asoro, though, responded in the best manner – and stepped up his game.

The prospect caused the Bristol City defence no end of problems, and it was ultimately his trickery and determination which forced a last minute own-goal, which saw Sunderland complete their comeback.

Asoro now should have a great deal of confidence behind him going into this weekend’s match with Brentford.

And Coleman, who has suggested that he will make changes on Saturday, should ensure that Asoro remains in Sunderland’s starting line-up, as he looks like one of their most dangerous weapons right now.
