The 20-year-old has signed a new deal until 2020, but what are the chances he’ll see out such a stay?
Tottenham’s Joshua Onomah and Forest’s Joe Worrall in action
Nottingham Forest fans should be absolutely delighted that 20-year-old Joe Worrall has signed a new deal with the Championship club, yet for some, there is cause for concern.
Worrall, a defender, has been touted by some as a future captain, yet some fans believe that his new deal is the start of owner Fawaz Al Hasawi’s plan to sell him – fattening the pig, so to speak.
Having agreed an extension until 2020, the prospect of the youngster staying at the City Ground that long appears slim when you look at some of the talents that have departed in recent seasons.
Previously, Oliver Burke, Michail Antonio, Jamaal Lascelles and Karl Darlow all signed new contracts, and Al Hasawi told supporters that he had no intention of selling any of them. He sold them all, three of which behind the manager’s back.
Actions like that are some of the reasons why supporters have no trust in Al Hasawi, which has ultimately led to fan protests – both with their feet and vocally.

If history is to go by, Forest fans will get a statement from Al Hasawi claiming that he has no interest in selling Worrall – similar to the one fans got after Ben Brereton recently signed a new deal – and the player will be sold within a year.
Fans will be praying this isn’t the case and a corner has been turned with Al Hasawi, that homegrown players such as Worrall will be staying until 2020 and beyond, but as we all know, it’s a big ask to expect leopards to change their spots.
