Tottenham Hotspur will not be bringing Joe Scally to the Premier League this summer with the Bundesliga ace signing a new deal at Borussia Monchengladbach instead.

After confirming last week that Marcus Thuram, Ramy Bensebaini and iconic captain Lars Stindl will all be leaving Borussia Park – and with Oliver Glasner attracting interest too – Die Fohlen supporters were due some good news.

They certainly got some on Thursday afternoon.

Just 24 hours BILD reported that Scally may be allowed to leave during the summer transfer window, Gladbach put an emphatic end to those rumours.

Tottenham miss out on Bundesliga ace Joe Scally

“The most important thing for me is to be playing regularly. Borussia give me the chance to do that and help my development as a player,” Scally explains.

The ink is now drying on a new contract keeping him at Gladbach until 2027.

“The club presented me with a clear plan regarding my future during our conversations. I’m pleased to be staying at Borussia.”

New York-born Scally, who has four caps for the USA national team, was reportedly scouted by both Tottenham and Manchester United late last year. Likened to Trent Alexander-Arnold due to his technical ability and attacking mindset; Scally has also been described as ‘one of the most talented right-backs in his age group anywhere in the world’.

With Scally no longer on the market, Manchester United are stepping up their pursuit of fellow Bundesliga flyer Jeremie Frimpong. Tottenham, meanwhile, signed Pedro Porro in January. It remains to be seen, however, if Emerson Royal will still be a Spurs player in 2023/24.

“Joe has developed really well with us,” adds Gladbach director Roland Virkus.

“He quickly made the transition from being a talented youngster in our U23s. (He is now) a regular for the first team. (Scally) even made the USA World Cup squad. This is a great example of the journey we want our promising youngsters signed from other clubs to take.

“This contract extension acknowledges his development.”
