Joe Newell’s comeback for the Millers has been dogged by niggling injuries so far this season.

Rotherham United midfielder Joe Newell has told the club’s official website that he is ‘buzzing to be back’ following a lengthy injury lay-off.
The 23-year-old made his long-awaited return against Bristol City this term after having ankle surgery last season but was forced off midway through the second half.
The Tamworth-born talent returned to the bench for The Millers’ trip to Blackburn Rovers, and will look to be included in their upcoming clash with Cardiff City.

Speaking with the club’s official website, Newell said “It’s hard not to be playing and the pre-season was the worst. You usually return buzzing to be back and with the way we finished last season, the excitement and celebrations that came with staying up made it harder to see all the lads back out there while I was in the gym.”
The former Peterborough United midfielder is itching for a run-out at the New York Stadium this weekend, with hand and toe injuries having hampered his comeback earlier this month.
Newell is in his second season with The Millers, having penned a three-year deal at the club in August 2015. He made 38 appearances in all competitions last campaign, scoring five goals, before he was beset by injury problems.

Alan Stubbs’ men are in 21st position in the Championship, having collected six points from their opening eight games.
While they have had no problems finding the back of the net, as evidenced by three 2-2 draws, they have leaked three goals or more in five of their nine games this season.
Having suffered a setback against fellow strugglers Blackburn last time out, Saturday’s clash with Cardiff represents an opportunity to put daylight between the drop zone, with the Bluebirds bottom of the division.
