Joe Lumley has been rewarded for his efforts as the goalkeeper signs a new three-year deal at QPR
Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Joe Lumley has signed a new three-year deal at Loftus Road, committing himself until the summer of 2021.
The 23-year-old spent a portion of last season on loan at League One Blackpool where he kept nine clean sheets in 18 appearances before returning to west London where he made two starts for QPR at the end of the campaign.
Lumley is held in high regard at Rangers and the Harrow-born shot stopper will be aiming to push on and make the no.1 jersey his own. Speaking to QPR’s official site, Lumley explained: ” I’ve been here since I was 16, so I’m delighted to sign for another three years.
“Since I’ve joined I’ve always wanted to play for the first team so I’d do anything for that. Now that the new contract’s all sorted I can push ahead.”

The news comes as a relief to Rangers’ fans after the departure of Alex Smithies to Cardiff City this summer. Many were aggrieved at the fee Smithies was sold for but now Lumley has extended his stay, many in west London will hope he can fill the void.
It remains to be seen if manager Steve McClaren will opt for Lumley over Matt Ingram in between the sticks for the new season but naturally, some QPR fans are delighted that Lumley has committed himself to the club.
