Joe Ledley is a big fan of his former Celtic team-mate.

Scott Brown of Celtic is seen during the Scott Brown testimonial match between Celtic and Republic of Ireland XI at Celtic Park on May 20, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

Joe Ledley has told Open Goal that Scott Brown is still a huge player for Celtic.

The Wales international played alongside the Celtic captain for four years at Parkhead.

Brown came close to quitting the Hoops after 12 years of service recently amid speculation about a move to Australia, [The Daily Mail] but the 33-year-old put pen to paper and signed a new deal.

He skippered the Bhoys – then under Brendan Rodgers – to a second successive domestic treble last season, in addition to winning a number of individual end-of-term awards.

And Ledley suggests that his former side would’ve missed ‘when he’s not there’.

“Best captain I’ve ever had by far. Just the aura about him, you know, you miss him when he’s not there,” he told Open Goal.

“It is horrible when people say that but you do, you need him in your team, you need him around the place.

“He’s just that man, that Celtic man where if you look at him in the tunnel and you think ‘Yeah, he’s on it’.”

Celtic snapped up Brown for £4.4 million from Hibernian back in 2007 [The Guardian] and what a bargain that’s been.

He has won 17 major honours with the Hoops, including eight Premiership titles.

That could and definitely should be nine come May, with Celtic, now under Neil Lennon on an interim basis, eight points clear of second-placed Rangers.
