Joe Jordan is tipping Leeds United to be right in the mix for promotion out of the Championship this season.

Joe Jordan has told Leeds Live that he does not think that Leeds have one key player that they rely on too much, and suggested that the work ethic under Marcelo Bielsa is the key to their success.

The Whites are setting the pace in the Championship once again this season, with four wins coming in their opening five games. They have also not conceded a league goal from open play since the opening day of the campaign.

However, the Elland Road faithful will be doing all they can to not get carried away after the events of last season when they ultimately fell short in the promotion race having led the way for so much of the campaign.

But former Whites striker Jordan tipped Leeds to clear that final hurdle this season as he lauded the amount of work they do and the style of play that Bielsa has implemented during his time in England.

“I don’t think they have a key man as such for Leeds. They are not a team who are going to rely on a specific individual, it’s a team game and they will rely on their performance and the way they go about their business,” he told Leeds Live.

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa during the Carabao Cup Second Round match between Leeds United and Stoke City at Elland Road on August 27, 2019 in Leeds, England.

“Leeds are a hard working and intense who put pressure on the opposition. Their work ethic is sensational. Marcelo Bielsa seems very intense and thorough. He gives the players as much knowledge as they can. He plays a system of football that I believe the Leeds’ support enjoy, which is very important.”

What is particularly exciting for Leeds supporters this season is that they do appear to have more game-changing players in their ranks this term.

Pablo Hernandez arguably remains the side’s talisman, but Mateusz Klich continues to make an important contribution and Helder Costa has been added to Bielsa’s squad. He is already producing moments of magic for his new club despite mainly featuring from the bench – the same could be said for Eddie Nketiah.

Kalvin Phillips continues to impress and Ben White is looking set to be one of the Whites’ best loan additions for a number of years having enjoyed a fantastic start to his spell. The pressure had certainly been on the youngster in the wake of the club’s controversial decision to sell Pontus Jansson to Brentford.

And with players such as Stuart Dallas, Adam Forshaw, Jack Harrison and Patrick Bamford stepping their games up this season, it would not be a surprise to see Leeds pull away once again this year. And with the painful memories of last season unlikely to fully subside anytime soon, it would not be a surprise to see Bielsa’s men even more determined to get across the line this time around.
