Dane Scarlett’s star is clearly rising at Tottenham Hotspur.

Last season under Jose Mourinho, the 17-year-old striker became Spurs’ youngest-ever player in a competitive game when the Portuguese coach used him against West Bromwich Albion, at the age of only 16.

And on Saturday, Scarlett was the only Tottenham player to score as the Lilywhites drew 1-1 away to Leyton Orient in Nuno Espirito Santo’s first game since replacing Mourinho.

Big things are expected of the youngster, but he isn’t the only academy gem who has been impressing behind the scenes.

Speaking to Tottenham’s website after the draw on Saturday, goalkeeper Joe Hart also reserved praise for 18-year-old Nile John.

He said: “It’s a big opportunity. I like these guys, I like them a lot. There’s a super talent in Dane. Nile is really impressing. There’s a really solid core coming through at Spurs.”

Yes Scarlett scored the goal on Saturday, but a lot of Spurs fans were also impressed with John.

He sat in the middle of the park and did a very Oliver Skipp-type job for Nuno’s side, even if it was against a significantly inferior side.

Nuno gave him an hour to impress and he did just that and it seems certain that Tottenham fans who missed Saturday’s game will get to see John in more pre-season encounters between now and the start of the 2021-22 campaign in mid-August.

Next up for the Lilywhites are away games against Colchester United and MK Dons on July 21 and July 28.
