Oli Abildgaard has left Celtic on to join Serie A side Hellas Verona after a short stint on loan at the Glasgow club – and has taken to Instagram to thank the Scottish side – prompting reaction from the likes of Joe Hart and Moritz Jenz.
One-time Denmark star Abildgaard joined Celtic in the summer on loan from Russian side Rubin Kazan. But the 26-year-old has struggled to make a real impact at the Hoops. He managed just nine appearances for Celtic this season.
He has struggled to the extent in which he has decided to leave Celtic and look for a new venture. Kazan have recalled him and loaned him to Verona until the end of the season. It is unclear if a deal will be made permanent this summer.
Abildgaard has taken to Instagram after leaving Celtic. He posted a touching message to the club itself, the supporters. The versatile ace described the Parkhead atmosphere as “special” – and that he needs to get fully fit to shine in Italy.

It is the right move. Abildgaard is not good enough for Celtic and with the club bringing in Yuki Kobayashi in defence, and then Tomoki Iwata in the middle of the park – the need for Abdilgaard has lessened. He needed to leave Parkhead.
A move to the top tier of Italian football is an exciting one for Abildgaard. He joins a side in deep trouble in Serie A, sitting in a poor 18th place and with just 13 points on the table from 20 league games. A big task ahead for the player.
Plenty have responded to his Instagram post. The likes of Hart, Liel Abada, Carl Starfelt and Jenz – who also saw his Celtic loan cancelled, and has since joined Schalke for the rest of the season – have commented on his Instagram post.
