Joe Gomez labelled Trent Alexander-Arnold as a ‘top-class’ player after Liverpool beat Watford 2-0 on Saturday, as he told BT Sport.

With Alexander-Arnold nursing a hamstring injury during the international break, Gomez started at right-back yesterday and provided the assist for Diogo Jota’s opening goal.

And just like his Liverpool teammate has been doing during his teen to adult years, it was a brilliant cross from Gomez to allow Jota to time his run to perfection and glance his header past the charging Ben Foster.

Whilst Gomez’s game time has been limited this season, it just proves the depth Jurgen Klopp has to pick from because the former Charlton man is international worthy when playing on a regular basis.

After the game, the versatile defender was told by a BT Sport reporter that there was a ‘smile on Trent’s face’ as he got his assist, as Gomez issued this response.

“Obviously Trent’s a top-class player and we know what he brings to the side,” said Gomez. “It’s naturally not my normal position.

“Playing there, as Jota said we spoke before the game, so maybe he has spoken it into existent for me.”

The biggest few weeks of Liverpool’s season await them as they battle it out in three different competitions.

There has been a lot of talk about the Reds winning a possible quadruple, or multiple trophies this term.

Well, with the Champions League, the Premier League title showdown against Man City and the FA Cup to come before the end of April, those dreams might just become reality if they come out on top.

Many will expect Liverpool to see off Benfica over their two-legs in the Champions League, but their Premier League and FA Cup semi-final clashes against Man City will be different gravy altogether.

After Alexander-Arnold’s recent rest, expect the crossing specialist to return to the XI for Liverpool’s trip to Portugal on Tuesday night.
