Liverpool defender Joe Gomez has praised the team spirit within the squad at the moment on when speaking to the club’s official website, stating his determination to get back to playing football again as soon as possible.

Gomez hasn’t been able to play for 12 months because of an anterior cruciate ligament injury, followed by an achilles problem and he hasn’t made a single appearance under Jürgen Klopp.

At the start of this season, Liverpool have made a very positive start to the campaign – leaving them two points off the pace in the Premier League following a difficult set of fixtures.

Gomez told the official website: “The whole team plays together and it has shown on the pitch recently with the results. The team is flying. The way [Klopp] has established that, you can see the emotion in the team when we play.

“It has been a long year. It has been tough. But it is all behind me – I’ve grown from it and learned a lot physically and mentally. Only good can come from it.”

Gomez may be a long way off forcing his way into the first team, and there have been suggestions – including from the Liverpool Echo – that Bournemouth and Huddersfield Town are two teams who would be interested in taking the player on loan from January, though Liverpool are reluctant to let him leave.

He is around a confident environment but given the lack of European football this season, it is a very big squad at Liverpool where many players are going to be trying to force their way into the side, and as a result many players will miss out.

Gomez will need to build up his fitness up and then get some game time under his belt at some stage. He showed at the start of his Liverpool career last season, prior to his injury, that he is a talented footballer full of promise.
