Joe Garner has revealed via the Glasgow Evening Times that memories of hearing Lorenzo Amoruso rave about Rangers influenced his decision to join the club.

The 28-year-old joined Rangers in a £1.5 million deal from Preston North End last week, signing on a three-year deal.

Garner, who spent three years with Preston, is Mark Warburton’s 10th summer signing so far.

The striker began his career at Blackburn Rovers where he played alongside legendary Italian defender Amoruso, who won three Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and three Scottish League Cups during his six-years with Rangers.

And Garner claims that his memories of listening to the 45-year-old gush about the Gers was a factor in his decision to join up with Warburton and co.

“You’ve seen some massive stars up here, and when I was a kid at Blackburn Lorenzo Amoruso came down from Rangers and didn’t shut up about what it was like when he was here,” he told the club’s official website, via The Evening Times.

“So I have memories of that, and now I’m just really looking forward to getting involved and playing my part here.”

He could make his debut for Rangers in Friday’s visit to Kilmarnock but Kenny Miller and Joe Dodoo are also in contention to spearhead the attack in the absence of injured Martyn Waghorn.
