Rangers' Joe Garner celebrates

Joe Garner has told the Glasgow Evening Times that he has been very impressed with Glasgow Rangers supporters since joining.

Garner joined Rangers last summer from Preston North End, and he has mixed success at Ibrox.

The striker has suffered with injuries, and has not been a prolific scorer since moving to Scotland.

Garner netted a hat-trick in his last outing, but he has only scored seven goals in 27 matches.

The 28-year-old’s desire and work rate has still made him a crowd favourite at Ibrox though, and Garner has been hugely impressed by Rangers fans.

“The fans have always been behind me and so I really need to thank them for that,” Garner said.

“This is a top place to play and you’re always looking to give something back to them if you can. Hopefully scoring a hat-trick does that a bit. Ever since I scored my first goal against Celtic they have been right behind me. They are really great fans and it’s a pleasure to play for this club.

“The song the fans sing about me seems to keep them happy so that’s the main thing. If they go home happy because we’ve won and go out and have a good weekend and a few drinks then I’m all for that. A few of the lads walk around the dressing room singing the song but it’s all good!”

Garner was introduced as a second-half substitute in Rangers’ cup match against Hamilton at the weekend, but he still had time to bag a hat-trick during the contest.

Rangers are now in into the semi-final of the Scottish Cup, where they will play Celtic.

The Light Blues also take on the Bhoys in their next fixture in the league, which comes on Sunday.
