Speaking on the All to Play For Podcast, Joe Cole has shared details of a conversation he had with West Ham’s Mark Noble about the Super League.
Cole and Noble of course know each other from their playing days, and it seems as though they’re still in touch with one another to this day.
It’s been a crazy week in football, and it’s been so insane that Noble was even talking about West Ham’s chances of winning the Premier League title.
“It’s a weird time as well with the Super League, I think anyone who was in it should have 20 points taken off, it puts West Ham second,” The podcast’s host said.
Cole replied to that comment, sharing what Mark Noble told him about West Ham’s title chances after the Super League news broke.
“I was with (Mark) Noble the other night and I said to him ‘you’re going for the title son’, and he said ‘what a season, if they deduct points it’ll be down to West Ham or Leicester.’ It’s been a strange few years, but that would be even stranger.”
To be fair, Noble has a point.
There’ve been plenty of pundits and even owners suggesting that these six teams should be docked points, and while there are no reports suggesting that the Premier League are planning such sanctions, it’s not out of the realms of possibility.
West Ham would be catapulted into a title race with Leicester City if points were docked, and while it would be fantastic to see the Foxes repeat their 2019 trick, the Hammers winning a league title would be historic.
Of course, it’s all a pipe dream at the moment, but as this week has shown, anything can happen in football.
