Joe Cole has shared that he told the Chelsea ownership group during the early part of their tenure that they ‘don’t have to worry’ about Thomas Tuchel.

The former Premier League title winner shared that he was in LA working for Chelsea when he got talking to the powers that be at the club.

And he made it clear that Thomas Tuchel was a ‘top, top’ manager, but was left ‘baffled’ when, months later, the German was booted out of the door, as he told Premier League Productions (06/11/23 at 7:20 pm).

That led to Graham Potter entering the building, with Todd Boehly spending money like it was falling off a tree at Stamford Bridge, before and after those appointments.

Despite the influx of young stars joining Chelsea, the results and performances didn’t improve, with the London club falling out of Europe altogether.

And now with Mauricio Pochettino in charge, Chelsea fans are hoping for a change of fortune, with Joe Cole opening up against the conversation he had with those up above.

“When the club was purchased, I was in LA working for the club and I spoke to some of the ownership group,” said Cole.

“They were asking me questions and they were good people and they wanted to know what was going on. I told them ‘the one thing you don’t have to worry about at the club is Thomas Tuchel’.

“I said ‘trust me. Thomas Tuchel is a top, top manager. You don’t have to worry about that. He won the Champions League with a team they probably shouldn’t have done’.

“So, I was baffled when three or four months later, it seemed to be crumbling and Thomas looked like he was falling away.”

Tottenham 1-4 Chelsea

It was a chaotic game and one that will live long in the memory of fans across the world, with everything and anything happening during the game.

Yes, Spurs took the lead, and from then on, everything went wrong for them, including being down to nine men on the hour mark when the scores were still 1-1.

But Chelsea can only beat what is put in front of them, as Pochettino is slowly but surely getting the ship working.

The aim for the club has to be returning to the Champions League, or else, that call to part ways with Tuchel will look worse and worse by the day.
