Mauricio Pochettino said earlier this week that he does not believe Tottenham will win the Premier League for many years.

Joe Cole told BT Sport’s coverage of Tottenham Hotspur’s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea that Harry Kane and Dele Alli should be on the phone to their agent after Mauricio Pochettino’s latest comments.

Spurs suffered a poor defeat to Maurizio Sarri’s side, failing to produce a shot on target throughout the match. Chelsea’s sturdy defence of David Luiz and Antonio Rudiger – shielded by Jorginho – were excellent.

Pochettino was quoted by the Telegraph as saying before the game: “It’s going to be tough the possibility to win the Premier League. To change that is not only five-year work, maybe it is 10-year work to change.”

Former Chelsea and England star Cole responded to those comments, suggesting that Spurs’ star players including Kane and Alli should be on the phone to their agent in order to move to a club that will win trophies – rather than wait 10 years.

“My opinion, if I’m Harry Kane and Dele Alli, my manager says I’m five/10 years away from winning a trophy, I’m on the phoning the agent,” Cole said.

“I don’t see a change in mentality – they lost to Burnley for instance. They will have their sights set on winning PL trophies.”

Spurs look well and truly out of the Premier League title race after losing to Chelsea, while Manchester City beat West Ham and Liverpool earned an excellent 5-1 win over Watford.

It pushes the north Londoners nine points behind leaders Liverpool and eight behind City. Pochettino’s men may now have to look over their shoulder, with bitter rivals Arsenal only four behind. Coincidentally, it is Arsenal they play next.
