The former West Ham United and Liverpool star, who won the Premier League title thrice with Chelsea, has also revealed that he would have loved to play for Rangers.
The 37-year-old former England international, who could operate as an attacking midfielder or as a winger, played with Gerrard for Liverpool and the England national football team.
Cole told The Scottish Sun: “I don’t think Steven will be in any rush to leave. It’s a great job. We played a friendly for Chelsea up there and it was a great place to play.
“I’d imagine it’s a great place to manage too. I reckon he’s there for the long haul.
“He probably wants to be the man to turn it round up there. Rangers is a club I’d have loved to have played for.”
Long-term stay
Gerrard is doing quite well at Rangers at the moment, as the Gers are challenging for the Scottish Premiership title and giving Old Firm rivals Celtic a run for their money.
Rangers may not have progressed to the knockout rounds of the Europa League this season, but playing in the group stage of the European competition was a success in itself.
Gerrard seems to be enjoying himself at Rangers, and it does look very likely that he will be at Ibrox for the long term, especially if the Glasgow giants are able to sustain their challenge for the Scottish Premiership title until the end of the season.
