Joe Cole has told BT Sport that a packed-out Elland Road could be worth as many as seven points to Leeds United per season once fans are allowed to return.
It’s been a year since fans of the West Yorkshire club were allowed to attend a home game due to the ongoing pandemic.
Even when they were struggling in the Championship, Leeds away was a difficult fixture because of the atmosphere that the home support drum up inside Elland Road on a matchday.
Marcelo Bielsa’s side held Chelsea to a 0-0 draw at home today, having also drawn with Arsenal and Manchester City in the same location earlier in the campaign.
And Chelsea legend Cole believes that United – who are 12th in the table on their return to the Premier League – would and could be doing a lot better if not for the empty stadium.
He told BT Sport: “With the crowd back in here that’s another five, six or seven points on the total.”
Cole is absolutely right but really, it could be a lot more than seven points.
Leeds fans really do make Elland Road a fortress and no matter who the opposition is, the support can get under their skin and drive on their own boys simultaneously and it’ll be fascinating to see how much better Bielsa’s troops could do next term.
