Tottenham star and England captain Harry Kane has gone for a scan on his ankle after suffering a knock against Iran – and Joe Cole has told ITV Sport that he might not have recovered as well as he would have liked, and could be rested.
Kane, 29, lasted 76 minutes – with the knock to his ankle occurring around the hour mark. The Spurs star did not open his account for this World Cup, but did create two of England’s six goals. A brilliant performance from the Three Lions.
But with a tougher test coming against USA on Friday evening, England will be hoping Kane is fit. However, reports emerged on Tuesday that the England star will be going for a scan on his ankle. It is a concern for England, for Friday.
Cole spoke to ITV Sport on Wednesday ahead of Morocco’s clash against Croatia. He thinks that given Kane continued, it would suggest he knows it is not a bad one – but he might not have recovered as well as he would have liked.

“He’s had problems. The positive thing is that he continued after the incident,” Cole said, when asked whether Kane will be a doubt for Friday’s clash against USA. “Harry Kane would know himself, it is not a bad one.
“What has probably happened is he has not recovered in the 48 hours as well as he would have liked. Just to be sure, they’ve taken him for a scan. It leaves Gareth Southgate with a question mark, does he rest him?”
Cole: Tottenham star Kane might not have recovered
If England lose Kane, it is an enormous blow. Especially considering, that he remained on the pitch for more than 10 minutes after suffering the knock to his ankle. It might have worsened the issue ahead of Friday’s second outing.
Kane has a history of ankle injuries. Cole makes a good point in saying that Kane will know if it is a bad one. However, the desire to play for England at a World Cup might have got him through the next few moments after the tackle.
What is for certain, is that England will be desperate to have Kane available on Friday. If he is unavailable to face USA, it is not the end of the world – as long as he is fit for the Wales clash. Callum Wilson will be primed and ready.
