Rangers have signed Defoe on an 18-month loan deal from Bournemouth in the January transfer window.
Former Chelsea and Liverpool star Cole, who played with Defoe at West Ham and for the England national football team, believes that the 36-year-old striker will be a success at Rangers.
The 37-year-old, who also played with Rangers manager Steven Gerrard at Liverpool and for the Three Lions, believes that the Ibrox faithful should be excited about the English striker.
Cole told The Scottish Sun about Defoe: “Jermain is a very different animal, he won’t be there to wind down his career, definitely not.
“The lack of injuries is a key thing and also that he hasn’t played Champions League football, because that takes a lot out of you.
“Jermain is still fresh and you’ll see that at Rangers. The fans are right to be very excited.”

Excitement for Rangers fans
Rangers already have arguably the Scottish Premiership’s best striker in Alfredo Morelos, and the signing of Defoe on a loan deal is only going to make the Gers more potent in attack.
With the Gers challenging Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title this season, Rangers fans should be excited about a potential strike-partnership between Morelos and Defoe in the coming weeks and months.
